Trip Report: Vancouver to Sitka - June 14-24, 2008

Note: Due to the large number of images from the trip, my Flickr page will most likely allow quicker viewing of my images than the "best of" slideshow above.

The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful region of the world, very inspirational indeed. Vistas and wildlife overload the senses and you often find yourself having difficulty deciding what to focus the camera on. Add diving on top of all the topside magnificence, and you have a trip of a lifetime.

Starting with our morning flight, we knew this was going to be quite a trip. The pilot dipped the plane to our side as we passed over Mount Shasta getting a bird's eye view. The opposite side got treated similarly with Crater Lake and then our side finished the fun with a soaring scene of Mount Saint Helens. Wow!

We boarded the Nautilus Explorer in Vancouver, British Columbia and headed up through the inside passage, stopping along the way to observe orcas, otters, stellar sea lions, humpback whales, bald eagles, black bears, and grizzlies. The snowy capped mountains and calm inside waters always gave a spectacular back-drop.

The diving was rich with invertebrate and fish life, and I came home with many images to be proud of. Since I had been up in this region twice before, I had some specific images I hoped to capture. Although I got a couple, there are still many more that remain in my mind's eye. I can only hope future trips will allow me to capture them...and inspire me with new ones yet unimagined!
