Reports of sunshine and 60' vis on Saturday were enough for me to switch my photographic focus from super macro to full blown wide angle with the fisheye lens. Although the conditions were not as nice as expected, they exceeded my expectations based on dive reports earlier in the week. A solid 30-40' of vis produced some nice colored water to contrast the typical yellows, reds, and oranges which dominate our local waters. California hydrocoral (Stylaster californica) was the main draw in Bluefish Cove, the location of the first dive.

I decided the second dive was worth testing out the new super macro setup and I needed practice with it anyway. With this setup, my macro lens needs two separate gears which need to be aligned properly in order to have complete control over the focus distance of the lens. In addition, the housing has an extra hunk of metal and glass on the front, and I use a battery pack and HID light to help me focus manually or for the camera to autofocus. Fun, challenging, and ultimately a great tool I hope to master. The painted greenling (Oxylebius pictus) was shot with normal macro and autofocus and the nudibranch (Hermissenda crassicornis) was shot with super macro and manual focus.
